Woking students take on ‘World Challenge’
Written by Bethany Lloyd
A group of Woking College students are taking part in a life changing experience that will take them to the heart of Africa.
The group will be benefiting the villagers in the South of Ghana when they visit in the Summer of 2012. They will be building and decorating classrooms whilst sharing their knowledge through teaching children basic school skills including English and Maths.
The money raised by the students will not only pay for their travel but also directly benefit the village they will be staying in. With each student collecting a grand total of £3000 each, the whole expedition will provide support to the village and build the students’ life experiences significantly.
The students will participate in many activities whilst in Ghana such as hiking and camping, which they have already practised on their own independent test run. During December, the group went camping for the weekend along with a couple of their teachers to acclimatise themselves.
Another group of Woking college students visited Ethiopia, Africa in July 2010 and after an eye opening and fulfilling journey, returned with treasured memories and unforgettable friends. As for the next group going out to Africa this year, from all of us here at Woking College, good luck in your fund-raising – we’re all behind you.
