Children’s Play, Learning & Development

(Equivalent to 1 A Level)

Working with children is a fun, rewarding and exciting career with the potential to change lives. This course will help you develop the appropriate experience, skills, and knowledge you need to work with children. The course includes work placements with a wide range of ages so that you can apply your skills and deepen your practical knowledge. The course provides clear progression into higher education or employment.

What skills will I develop?

You will develop your understanding of how children development particularly focussing on 1 – 7 year olds.

You will develop your ability to create activities & interact with children, further enhancing this through work experience placements equally 50 hours.

You will learn more about the specific development of children in the key areas of literacy & numeracy.

What topics will I study?

BTEC Extended Certificate

  • Unit 1: Children's development
  • Unit 2: Development of children's communication, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Unit 3: Play & Learning
  • Unit 6: Children's physical development, care and health needs

* The course also requres 50 hours of mandatory work experience in a childcare setting with children from birth up to 7 years old.

Where does the course lead?

Career opportunities in nursery care, teaching, youth work and other related services, as well as degree opportunities in related courses.
