Media Studies

Media Studies is an exciting practical and academic course which develops students’ awareness of a range of media issues arising from an increasingly digitally dominated media-saturated culture. Topics covered include the study of media industries and organisations such as music and television and the exploration of media products such as films, televisions and video games.

In the AS year, students will produce two print-based products, bringing together technical, analytical and creative skills. They will also build their knowledge of Media institutions such as the music or television industries.

In A2 students will gain further practical skills with the creation of a media package such as a promotional campaign using technologies including video and the internet. They will also learn to critically evaluate their own work and they will build on their knowledge of contemporary media issues, for example investigating the global impact of media or the impact of the internet.

And afterwards… Career opportunities include marketing, advertising, public relations and publishing, as well as careers in the media such as researchers and production assistants.
