Big Spenders at Sweet Charity Musical production   Minimize

Students from Woking College pulled off a show stopper performing the iconic musical Sweet Charity as their annual musical production.  Written by Cy Coleman and Neil Simon the vibrant comedy is packed with big band numbers, glittering costumes and well know songs such as “Hey Big Spender” “The Rytham of Life” and “If He Could See Me Know”.  The cast of 35 is supported by a 16 piece band with show stopping numbers having the capacity audiences “sing-a-long” to the well known songs.

Set in New York in the 1960’s the show follows the adventures of leading lady “Charity” as she looks for love, fun and fulfilment amongst a racy crowd of fellow New Yorkers.  With original choreography by Bob Fosse of Cabaret fame the dance numbers are pure glamour, glitz and “showbiz”.

Star of Sweet Charity Jess Mann who played Charity commented “This is such a fantastic, fun opportunity to work with a great cast and director in a really buzzy, full on musical”.

Directed by Claire Nevers (Head of Performing Arts) with musical direction by Anna Mitchell (Head of Music) the Performing Arts Department at Woking College Theatre Company  has had a highly successful year winning the prestigious  National All Winners Drama Festival with their production of Cider with Rosie” where they competed with groups from across the UK.

Director Claire Nevers praised “the hard work and commitment of the students who stage the show with only 11 rehearsals fitting in around their academic studies. Auditions are open to all students not just those studying the Performing Arts”.

The show runs from Wednesday 9 - Friday 11 December at 7.30pm with tickets are sold out on Friday 11 but are still available on Thursday 10. Tickets can be purchased from either the box office hotline on 01483 227415 or on the door at £10, concessions £6.
